LORETTO, P.A. - The Pfeiffer University men's volleyball team saw their three game win streak come to an end on Friday night, as they fell to St. Francis in a non-conference road matchup. Both teams were 3-3 coming into he matchup and with the loss the Falcons fall just below .500 to 3-4. St. Francis improves to 4-3 with the victory. The match was about as close as it gets, with games scores of 23-25, 21-25, 27-25, and 21-25.
The Falcons were again led by sophomore Sonny Hirini who finished with 18 kills and extended his streak to seven straight games in the double-figure kill column. On offense Hirini got help from sophomore Fabio Diniz and junior Michael Brewer who each chipped in nine and eight kills respectively. Junior David Specian racked up a game-high 43 assists, and on the defensive side of the ball, junior Kyle Landrigan led all players with eight digs.
After surrendering the first two games to St. Francis, the Falcons made a statement in game three with a 27-25 triumph. Game four was hard-fought and extremely close with a total of 11 ties and three lead changes. The Falcons actually led for a large portion of the fourth frame, holding the top spot from the time they scored their 12th point until St. Francis tied the score at 21 apiece. St. Francis got five straight serves from Ray Frazer to snag game four from the Falcons, 25-21.
Pfeiffer returns to action tomorrow at 7:00 pm when they travel to State College, P.A. to take on 12th-ranked Penn State in the final game of their non-conference road trip.
