SOFTBALL SWEEPS COMPETITION ON FINAL DAY OF COUGAR CLASSIC

Game 1 Box Score    Game 2 Box Score

COLUMBUS, G.A. - After beginning their opening weekend in Georgia 1-2, the Pfeiffer softball team (3-2) swept their remaining competition on Sunday, including an extra inning victory over Lincoln Memorial.

The Falcons took down their first opponent Lincoln Memorial, 4-3 in eight innings, handing the Railsplitters their first loss of the season and dropping their record to 4-1 overall.  Pfeiffer finished off their road trip with a solid win over conference-foe King University (2-3), finishing off the Tornado 5-2 in their weekend finale.  The Falcons beat a King team that two days prior had defeated nationally ranked Columbus State on their home field.

In the first contest of the day, sophomore pitcher Sam Jarmusch picked up the win, improving her season record to 1-1.  The loss went to Kirstin Toole of Lincoln Memorial, dropping her record to 1-1.  Lincoln Memorial got the scoring started in the first when Emilee Solomon reached home after Toole flied out to right field.  The Railsplitters wouldn't hold the lead for long however, with Pfeiffer picking up two of their four runs in the very next frame.

Freshman Allyson Mills drew first blood for the Falcons when she scored after Jarmusch reached first base on a fielder's choice.  On the next play, freshman Rachel Crowder hit into a double play which sent senior Celia Dew home for the Falcons' second tally.  Pfeiffer picked up a third run in the fourth inning when junior Lindsey Russell scored after junior Julie Bullington singled up the middle.  Lincoln Memorial answered with two runs of their own in the next frame, and following scoreless sixth and seventh innings, the game would be decided in the eighth.  Sophomore Jaclyn Boever scored the winning run from third when Russell flied out to centerfield.  Bullington led all players with two hits and Jarmusch struck out three batters en route to her first victory of the season.

In the Falcon's final matchup of the weekend, the victory went to freshman Sydney Poole who picked up her second collegiate win to improve to 2-0 on the season.  Poole struck out four batters and currently leads the team with 12 strikeouts for the season.  Morgan Lowe picked up the loss for King, dropping her record to 0-2.

The game was scoreless until the fourth frame when the Falcon bats caught fire. Junior Sadie Saine wasted absolutely no time and with her first at-bat of the inning smacked a homerun over the outfield wall.  On the very next play, Russell got on base when she singled to left field and Bullington came in to hit for junior Rebecca Foil.  Not to be outdone by her teammate, Bullington then knocked one over the left field fence, tacking on two more runs for the Falcons.  Dew scored Pfeiffer's fourth run of the inning when Crowder hit a sacrifice fly into left field.  The Falcons picked up their fifth and final run in the fifth frame when junior Lexie Brock scored on a fielding error by King's third baseman.

Pfeiffer tallied 10 total hits getting two apiece from Saine, Bullington, and Russell.  Bullington also smacked in two RBIs for the matchup.

The Falcons return to action on February 11th when they travel to Salisbury to take on Catawba in a doubleheader.  The first game is set for 2 p.m.
