Game 1 Box    Game 2 Box

Hickory, N.C. – Coming off the heels back-to-back wins, the Pfeiffer softball team (3-4) dropped both games of a doubleheader against Lenoir-Rhyne (5-1) by scores of 3-1 and 4-1.

In the first contest of the doubleheader, sophomore pitcher Sam Jarmusch was credited with her second loss on the season, falling to 1-2 on the year.  Jarmusch pitched six strong innings and gave up eight hits and three earned runs.

Lenoir-Rhyne was the first to strike in the bottom of the second inning when Jody Mizelle singled to left field to bring Katie Carpenter and Lauren Elder across the plate.

The Falcons responded in the top of the third inning when Hannah Jackson singled to center field allowing Jessica Jackson to score from second on a throwing error by the center fielder.  This accounted for the Falcons only run as they went on to lose 3-1.

In game two of the doubleheader it was freshman pitcher Sydney Poole who received the call on the mound.  Poole pitched her shortest outing of the season going four and one-third innings, allowing 12 hits and giving up four earned runs, giving Poole her first collegiate loss.

Lenoir-Rhyne struck early in game with a leadoff single followed by a sacrifice bunt.  Back-to-back doubles by Haily Jarmen and Brittany Coursen led to the first two runs of the game.  The Bears increased their lead when a single by Sarah Kenley plated the third and final run of the inning.

Pfeiffer was held scoreless until the top of the third inning when back-to-back singles by Jackson and Rachel Crowder put runners on first and second.  Emily Workman then reached based safely on a throwing error by the shortstop, which allowed Jackson to cross the plate for the Falcons only run.

Lenoir-Rhyne tacked on another run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Dakota Keller singled to right center, bringing home Anne Marie Lackey for the fourth and final run of the game.

Pfeiffer returns to the field when they host Brevard on Wednesday, Feb. 19 in a doubleheader.  Game one is expected to start at 1:00 p.m.
