MEN'S VOLLEYBALL PICKS UP NON-CONFERENCE WIN; BREWER LEADS ALL PLAYERS WITH 16 KILLS

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The Pfeiffer University men's volleyball team, following an early setback in the first frame of action, won three straight games to defeat non-conference rival Coker Tuesday night in Merner Gym.  With the win the Falcons improve to 5-6 overall and the loss drops Coker to 4-9 on the season.

For the third match in a row, junior Michael Brewer hit over .500, boasting a .565 hitting percentage for tonight's contest.  Brewer currently holds the second spot on the Conference Carolinas leaderboard for hitting percentage with an average of .340.  Brewer is second only to his teammate sophomore Fabio Diniz who holds the top spot with a .354 average hitting percentage.  For the evening Brewer also led all players with 16 kills and chipped in four digs on the defensive side of the ball.

After dropping game one to the visitors 21-25, Head Coach Paul Lawson circled the wagons and the Falcons resolved to defend their home court.  Game two almost mirrored the first stanza with the exception of the outcome.  Pfeiffer picked up game two 25-21 behind solid serving from Brewer and junior David Specian.  Each had service aces in the second game adding to their match totals of four apiece.

While the first two frames remained close throughout, games three and four were all Pfeiffer.  In game three the Falcons benefitted from solid service outings by Brewer and sophomore Sonny Hirini, putting together several runs to eventually take the game 25-15.  Hirini had 13 kills for the match and was one dig shy of a double-double, adding nine to the team's total.  Game four was much of the same, with more stellar serving from Specian and Diniz.  Game four was punctuated by Specian who put down a monster kill for the Falcons' 25th point, clinching the game and the match.  Specian led all players with 47 assists and added seven digs.

The Falcons put down 17 service aces for the match, with all but two Pfeiffer players tallying at least two.  Coker could only muster four aces in the outing and were bested in every category except for team blocks where the two squads tied with nine apiece.  Pfeiffer also had a strong match from sophomore Wyatt Hamilton who chipped in 11 kills and was the third Falcon in double figures.

The Falcons return to action on February 22nd when they take on Lindenwood.  Game time is set for noon in Merner Gym.
