WOMEN'S TENNIS DEFEATS CROSSTOWN RIVAL CATAWBA

SALISBURY, N.C. – The Pfeiffer women’s tennis team improved to 4-0 on the season after defeating Catawba (6-6) by a final score of 8-1.

Pfeiffer took care of business in the doubles competition as the team of Taylor Lindsay and Valeria Mendoza won in the number one spot by a score of 8-4.  Olivia Nelms and Hannah Watson competed in the number two spot and earned Pfeiffer’s second point in the doubles competition by a score of 8-1.  The number three doubles team of Mylene Petitpas and Amanda Long completed doubles play by winning 8-4.

Pfeiffer went 5-1 in singles competition as Nelms started off with a 6-4, 6-1 victory in the number one spot.  Lindsay played in the number two position as she defeated Sloan Kessler in three sets by scores of 6-4, 6-7, 10-6.

With the match already clinched, Pfeiffer won the next three games as Mendoza, Watson, and Petitpas defeated their opponents in straight sets.

Catawba’s lone point came in the number six spot as Alli Prior defeated Briana Oliver by a score of 6-2, 6-1.

The Falcons will return to action Saturday, Feb. 22 as they travel to North Greenville for their conference opener.  The match is set to start at 1:00 p.m.
