DUE WEST, SC - The Pfeiffer men's basketball team (6-20, 3-13 CC) wrapped up its 2013-14 regular season with a 70-56 loss at Erskine (15-11, 8-8 CC) on Thursday evening. The Falcons struggled against the Conference Carolinas leading defense and were held to a season-low point total.
Freshman Andrew Guerrero paced the Falcons offensively as he scored 15 points and went 3-of-7 from beyond the arc. Sophomore AJ Clark added 14 points, five rebounds and two steals on the night. Sophomore center Silvere Aluko tied a career-high with seven blocked shots and chipped in eight points and finishes the regular season as the conference’s leader in blocked shots.
Roderick Perkins led all scorers with 22 points for the Flying Fleet and Chris Gore added nine points and 13 rebounds.
Pfeiffer was held to a season-low 32.7 percent shooting from the field and connected on just 4-of-19 from the three point line. The Falcons converted 75 percent of their 24 free throw attempts on the game.
Erskine led the whole way and pushed the lead to as many as 23 points in the second half. Pfeiffer's bench outscored the Flying Fleet's reserves 19-11 and each team committed 14 turnovers.
Pfeiffer's previous season low scoring total also came against Erskine on Jan. 18 when the Flying Fleet held Pfeiffer to 57 points.
The Falcons have less than 48 hours to regroup as they head to top-seeded Mount Olive for the quarterfinals of the conference tournament. The Trojans wrapped up the regular season crown on Tuesday night when they narrowly topped last year's regular season champion, Barton. Tipoff for the contest is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Mount Olive with the winner advancing to the semifinals at the Cabarrus Arena and Events Center in Concord, NC on Wednesday.
