AIKEN, SC – The Pfeiffer women’s tennis team (7-0) recorded a huge victory at USC Aiken (6-2) on a cool and cloudy Saturday afternoon. The Falcons ran their winning streak to seven games and matched the best start to a season since the 2006-07 Pfeiffer team also started 7-0.
Pfeiffer got off to a good start in doubles competition as the Falcons took two of three to grab the upper hand. The team of Taylor Lindsay and Valeria Mendoza along with the duo of Hannah Watson and Olivia Nelms won by scores of 8-2 and 8-4 in first and second doubles respectively. The tandem of Margot Simon and Victoria Jasko topped Pfeiffer’s Briana Oliver and Mylene Petitpas by an 8-2 final in third doubles.
Nadine Tusiama took down Nelms in first singles by identical scores of 6-2, Nelms’ first loss on the season. Lindsay and Mendoza took care of second and third singles in straight sets to regain the advantage for the Falcons.
Aiken would respond by winning fourth singles as Shauna Williams beat Watson 7-6 and 6-1. However, Petitpas sealed the Pfeiffer victory with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 victory over Jasko in fifth singles.
Pfeiffer has a chance to surpass its best start since the aforementioned 2006-07 season when they host Guilford tomorrow at the Knapp Tennis Center at 2 p.m.
