|Baseball Defeats Upstate 5-3|

|Misenheimer, NC---Pfeiffer defeated USC-Upstate 5-3 in non-conference baseball action Tuesday afternoon. Pfeiffer scored twice in the bottom of the eighth to grab the win and improve to 15-16 on the season. USC-Upstate falls to 17-14. |
Pfeiffer got on the board first scoring a run in the bottom of the first. Ryan Harju led off with a double and later scored on an Upstate error.
Upstate tied the game in the second when Jake Rollins singled in Brian Dempsey to even the score at 1.
Both starting pitchers pitched well as the game reached the fifth tied at 1.
In the bottom of the fifth Pfeiffer came up with two runs to take a 3-1 advantage. Ryan Brown and Ryan Harju led off the inning with back to back singles and after an out Bryan Braxton knocked them both in.
Upstate tied the game in the eighth when Bret Story hit a two-run home run off Falcon reliever Chris Russell to tie the game at 3.
With two outs in the bottom of the eighth Pfeiffergot a walk from Shawn Coke, a single from Emmanuel Turner and a walk from Ryan Brown to load the bases. Ryan Harju then hit a two-run double to give the Falcons the lead at 5-3.
Russell settled down and shut out Upstate in the ninth and Pfeiffer had the win.
Chris Russell got the win for Pfeiffer and Dennis MCCraney took the loss for USC-Upstate.
Pfeiffer will host Tusculum at 2:30 pm on Wednesday the 21st.
