MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Behind a three goal outing from senior Kristina Anderson, the #12 Pfeiffer University women's lacrosse team defeated non-conference foe Saint Leo Friday afternoon, 12-7. With the win the Falcons improve to 7-2 overall this season while Saint Leo falls to 5-4. Senior Katherine Athens caused three turnovers in the matchup to increase her school record to 119.
The Falcons drew first blood just four minutes and 11 seconds into the first half when junior Sarah Daly scored unassisted for her first of two on the match. Saint Leo evened the score at one apiece with 20:23 left in the first half, but the scoreboard wouldn't stay even for long. Just 22 seconds later, Pfeiffer picked up their second tally of the match when junior Kristi Korn scored off a perfect pass from sophomore Whitney Jaffe. Following Korn's goal the Falcons put five straight points on the board to increase their lead to six, going up on Saint Leo 7-1. Pfeiffer picked up two more tallies to end the frame, and took a 9-3 lead into halftime.
The Falcons got second half goals from Anderson, junior Britton Muir, and sophomore Gracie Herbert but were narrowly outscored in the final stanza, 4-3. Pfeiffer outshot the visitors 31 to 24 for the match, getting a game-high seven shots from junior Ashleigh Kassab. Sophomore Cassidy Wilson picked up the win in goal for the Falcons, registering 12 stops and guarding the Falcon net for all 60 minutes.
Pfeiffer has over a week off before they return to action on March 29th when they take on Lees-McRae at N.E. Lefko Field. Match time is set for noon.
