MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Pfeiffer University softball team dropped a tough non-conference game today against St. Andrews by a score of 3-1. The game was called after five innings due to inclement weather, there is no news yet of making up game two. With the loss the Falcons fall to 10-15 while the Knights improved to 12-15
The Knights were quick to jump on the board as Kelsey Lee ripped a single to right center, scoring the runners from second and third. St. Andrews tacked on one more run in the top of the third with an RBI single coming off the bat of Kori Ballard.
The Falcons retaliated as Sydney Poole worked an eleven pitch at bat, with the last pitch being a solo shot over the left field fence. This was Poole’s first homerun of her career.
Pfeiffer had a chance to even the gap in the bottom of the fifth as they had bases loaded with one out. The Falcons could not capitalize as Jessica Jackson was called out on an infield fly and Lindsey Russell flew out to center field to end the inning.
Poole was tacked with the loss as she pitched five innings, giving up three runs on four hits. Poole fell to 3-7 after the loss today. Poole also led the team in hitting as she went 1-for-1 with a homerun and one walk. Poole accounted for one of Pfeiffer’s three hits on the game.
Pfeiffer returns to action Saturday, March 29 as they travel to take on Barton in a doubleheader starting at 1:30 p.m.
