|SAVANNAH, Ga. – AASU pitchers held Pfeiffer to just five hits in a 6-2 victory for No. 25-ranked Armstrong Atlantic on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference baseball action. |
Pfeiffer (24-22) took a 2-1 lead into the third inning by plating a single run in the second on Tyler Smith’s sacrifice fly and a single run in the third with an RBI groundout by Bryan Braxton. That would be all the Falcons would get against Pirate starter Culberson (3-1), who set down 14 in a row at one point following the third inning score. Culberson hurled seven innings, giving up five hits and two runs to pick up the win, the fifth straight win for the Pirates.
he Pirates (28-13) meanwhile scored a single run in the second on back-to-back doubles by Sean Hotzak and Joey Davis, then tied the game in the fourth with a single run. AASU took the lead in the fifth on Kenny Cail’s suicide squeeze bunt, then added insurance runs in the seventh on a Bohannon RBI single and the eighth with an RBI single by Mitch Hudson and another RBI single by Bohannon.
Pfeiffer starter Brett Richardson (0-3) took the loss for the Falcons, giving up five hits and three runs in six innings, walking six and striking out two.
Five different Falcon players had one hit with Zach Pou and Kyle Pugh each collecting doubles.
