BANNER ELK, N.C. - Looking to avenge a tough home loss to Lees-McRae on February 14th, the Pfeiffer University men's volleyball team traveled to Banner Elk Saturday for a long anticipated rematch with the Bobcats. Justice would come swiftly for the Falcons as they defeated their opponents in three straight games to clinch the match 3-0. The win puts Pfeiffer's overall record at .500 for the season, bumping them to 11-11 and 8-4 in Conference Carolinas play. The Bobcats fall to 12-13 on the season and 4-8 in conference action.
Game one was extremely close, boasting 16 ties of the score and six lead changes en route to a 25-23 Pfeiffer victory. The second frame was much of the same, with the Falcons squeaking out a 26-24 win over the home team. Junior David Specian started the game off for Pfeiffer, serving three straight points and following a monster kill by sophomore Fabio Diniz, the Falcons were looking at a 5-1 lead. Pfeiffer continued to dominate game two, leading 13-9 at one point and appeared to be cruising for another victory. The Bobcats found some steam however and followed Pfeiffer's attack with a 6-2 run of their own to tie the game at 15 apiece. The remainder of game two saw seven ties of the score, including the final draw at 24. The Falcons received a huge serving performance from sophomore Wyatt Hamilton to tally the final two points and claim game two.
Game three was never in question with a dominant 25-19 performance from the Falcons to secure the match. On the offensive side of the ball Pfeiffer was led by sophomore Sonny Hirini who notched nine kills and chipped in five digs. Three Falcons boasted an outing of eight kills apiece, with Diniz hitting a monster .438 for the match. Specian put up a game-high 37 assists while the Falcons were led defensively by Hamilton and junior Michael Brewer who snagged six digs apiece.
Pfeiffer returns to action on April 1st when they take on Limestone in their regular season home finale. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m. and will also feature a brief ceremony to honor the Pfeiffer's lone senior, Buck Boswell as he plays in his final regular season home match as a Falcon.
