DUE WEST, SC – The Pfeiffer men’s tennis team (12-3, 5-2 CC) survived a tough test from Erskine (2-13, 1-4) to come away with a narrow 5-4 victory on Monday afternoon at the Erskine Tennis Complex. The victory pushes the Falcons winning streak to four straight and improved Pfeiffer’s record to 8-1 since March 2.
Doubles competition was hotly contested as all three battles came to 9-8 conclusions. Pfeiffer took wins in second and third singles as the teams of Bret Williams and Stephen Miller and Orlando Castillo and Axel Woerner collected the victories. Jason Harris and Wilson Mathewes of Erskine topped Pfeiffer’s top doubles team of Loic Minery and Sebastian Wernecke to drop the pair to 11-3 on the season.
Minery rebounded in first singles play, dominating Jack West 6-0 and 6-0. Erskine took second, third and fourth singles over Pfeiffer, including a hard fought 2-6, 7-6, 7-6 win over Jimmy Molina in the fourth singles slot, to take a 4-3 advantage. However, Pfeiffer’s depth proved too much as Miller (3-6, 6-1, 6-1) and Williams (6-1, 6-0) took the final two contests of the afternoon to claim the victory.
Pfeiffer looks to continue its winning ways on Sat., Apr. 5 when they travel to Mount Olive for a 1 p.m. match.
