DUE WEST, SC - For the first time this season, the Pfeiffer women's tennis team (14-1, 6-1 CC) was defeated, ending the best start in school history at 14-0. The Falcons fell to Erskine (11-5, 6-0) by a final score of 8-1 as the Flying Fleet claimed sole possession of first place in the Conference standings.
The tone of the day was sent in first doubles as Taylor Lindsay and Valeria Mendoza stormed out to a 7-2 advantage. However, the team of Corin Hallman and Mika Goyette rebounded to take seven of the next eight to come away with a 9-8 victory. Pfeiffer's only win of the day came in second doubles as Hannah Watson and Olivia Nelms improved to 14-1 on the season with an 8-5 victory.
Erskine swept through the singles competition and Goyette handed Mendoza her first loss of the season. Goyette won 7-5 and 6-4 dropping the sophomore to 12-1 on the year.
The Falcons look to get back on the winning track when they travel to Mount Olive on Saturday for a 1 p.m. match.
