MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Pfeiffer baseball team suffered a 6-3 loss on Friday evening at the hands of conference foe Barton. With the loss the Falcons fall to 24-17, 11-7 CC while Barton improves to 14-24, 7-9 CC.
The first three innings breezed by as the two teams combined for one hit before the scoring broke out in the fourth inning.
Barton seized the fourth inning as they began the inning with bases loaded and no outs. The Bulldogs went on to break the tie as they scored four runs, two earned, on two hits in the inning.
Pfeiffer bounced back to score one run in the bottom of the fifth inning as Dalton Lindley singled to shortstop to bring home Matt Wade from third.
The Falcons rallied behind a Bulldog error in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull to within one run. Pfeiffer loaded the bases with one out as Anthony Allende reached on a fielder’s choice. Wade stepped up to the plate and hit a sharp groundball to second base bringing home the runner from third. Tyler Summers also scored on the play as he advanced home on the throw, bringing the Falcons to within one.
The Bulldogs crushed any hopes of a comeback as Andrew Webster blasted a two run homerun into the wind.
Ethan Greene received the start as he pitched seven and two-thirds innings giving up six runs, four earned, on seven hits. With the outing, Greene fell to 6-2 on the season.
The Falcons saw three batters go 2-for-4 as Cole McGraw, Summers, and Kyle Hackney combined 6-for-12 with two runs scored.
Pfeiffer returns to action tomorrow as they cap off conference play with a doubleheader against Barton starting at noon.
