SUMTER, S.C. – The Pfeiffer women’s tennis team (18-1) had no problem advancing beyond the conference quarterfinals on Friday morning. The Falcons are the No. 2 seed as they were matched up with the No. 7 seed in King Tornado (9-15). Pfeiffer won 5-0 to advance to the semifinals tomorrow.
The Falcons started off strong in doubles competition as they took the 3-0 lead headed into singles play. The team of Valeria Mendoza and Taylor Lindsay won 8-1 in the number one spot. Olivia Nelms and partner Hannah Watson took care of business by a score of 8-1 as well. To round out doubles competition, Mylene Petitpas and Amanda Long defeated their opponents by a score of 8-0.
Lindsay was the first to compete in the number two slot for singles play as she won in straight sets by scores of 6-1 in each set. Watson won the match clinching game in the number four slot as she upended Alyssa Salazar in straight sets by scores of 6-1, 6-0.
Pfeiffer will return to action tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. where they will face the winner of North Greenville and Limestone in the conference semifinals.
