| Misenheimer, NC---Pfeiffer (2-0) defeated pre-season #19 Mount Olive (2-1) 103-96 in CVAC action Tuesday night. DeMario Grier scored 31 and Tavares Cooper added 24 points for the Falcons. Elijah Rouse led the Trojans with 25. Pfeiffer scored 36 points off 27 Trojan turnovers as the Falcons won their conference opener. The game was fast paced and back and forth at the beginning with both teams running. With 10:14 to go the score was tied at 18. Mount Olive took the lead at the point and slowly built the lead to 8 at 39-31. Pfeiffer fought back and when Grier banked in a "3" with 20 seconds left the Trojans lead was down to two at 44-42. Grier scored 15 in the first half and Rouse had 17 for Mount Olive. Mount Olive outshot Pfeiffer 46%-35% but the Falcons made up for it at the free throw line outscoring the Trojans 12-5. Logan Call took over the game at the start of the second half, scoring 8 of Pfeiffer's first ten points as the Falcons claimed a 50-47 lead. It went back and forth for a while until the Trojans regained the lead 61-60 at the 13:18 mark. They held the lead for the next 5:34 until five straight points by Grier gave the Falcons a one point advantage at 79-78. the Falcons would never trail again. Mount Olive kept it close but Pfeiffer hit their free throws down the stretch and hung on for a 103-96 victory. Grier ended the game with 31 points. Cooper added 24 points. Robert McGriff contributed 15 points and 5 assists. Logan Call added 14 points, twelve in the second half, and nine boards. Elijah Rouse led the Trojans with 25 points and 13 rebounds. There were 13 lead changes and 11 ties for the game. Pfeiffer outscored Mount Olive 31-16 at the free throw line. Mount Olive barely outrebounded Pfeiffer 46-44. There were 52 turnovers for the game, Mount Olive had two more 27-25. Pfeiffer will host the Bobby Lutz Invitational this Friday and Saturday. Pfeiffer will play King at 7:00 pm Friday. Lees-McRae will take on UNC-Pembroke at 5:00 pm om Friday. the Consolation and Championship games will be Saturday at 3 and 5. |
