| Pfeiffer Advances to Semis With 1-0 Win |

Misenheimer, NC---The Pfeiffer (10-7-3) women’s soccer team advanced to the Conference Carolinas Tournament semifinals with a 1-0 win over St. Andrews Presbyterian (7-9-4) Wednesday afternoon. The Falcons will play in Friday’s semifinal game at 12:00 pm against the winner of tonight’s Queens/Barton game. The semis and finals will take place at Mount Olive College. Pfeiffer controlled the run of play in the first half but couldn’t get on the scoreboard. The Falcons outshot the Knights 6-2 on the half and had several opportunities but could not convert. The best scoring chance for Pfeiffer was in the 43rd minute. Megan Reaves sent in a long cross to the far post where Kirsten Bartsch was waiting. Bartsch’s header was deflected wide by the diving Knights goalie to keep the game scoreless. At halftime the score was 0-0. The Falcons out fast in the second half and in the 53rd minute they finally got on the board. Angela Reale took a pass from Madison Kerth and bat the keeper to give Pfeiffer a 1-0 lead. Pfeiffer continued to control play and had numerous shots on goal but could not increase their lead. At the 12:51 mark the Falcons were called for a foul in the box and St. Andrews received a penalty kick. Sam Frazer stepped up and drilled a shot that was heading into the right side of the net but Falcon keeper Suzie Hinman made a beautiful diving save to keep Pfeiffer in the lead. Pfeiffer kept up the pressure and played excellent defense and won the game 1-0. Pfeiffer outshot St. Andrews 18-3 for the game. |
