|The Pfeiffer men's basketball team won another nail biter at Lees McRae Wednesday night 108-103. It was a one point game with 1:12 to go when the Falcons made nine of 10 free throws and Derrick Truesdale made a game winning steal to seal the victory. Logan Call was dominant in scoring 29 points on 10-13 from the field, 2-3 from the 3-point line and 7-7 from the free throw line and adding seven rebounds and two assists. Freshman point guard, Jeff Pettiway who sat out most of the first half with foul trouble, has 22 points, four rebounds and five assists in 14 minutes of playing time, on only seven field goal attempts and made 13-14 free throws including four in row over the last minute. Robert McGriff had 14 points and Chris Woods had 10 points and eight rebounds. Pfeiffer was 29-33 from the free throw line and needed every one of them. The Bobcats were 7-11 from the 3-point line in the second half and shot 65% from the field. |
"A defensive battle it was not," said Pfeiffer coach Dave Davis. "They scored 66 and we scored 61 in the second half. It was a great game from a fan stand point and road wins are so difficult in our league. Our guys continue to find new and exciting ways to win basketball games, while giving all their fans and coaches nerve and cardiac issues. Lees McRae Coach Scott Polsgrove is doing a phenomenol job with his young kids. He is playing almost all freshman and they are playing outstanding basketball. They should have won at Queens and at Abbey last week and truth be told they should have beaten us tonight. No one in our league wants to play them right now. Craig Thomas is one of the best players we have. His stats are not huge, but what he does for us cannot be measured. Craig was perfect from the field and had five rebounds and was one of our few positive guys on the defensive end. Logan was great from start to finish. He opened the game with a driving basket and made the final two free throws that put the game out of reach. 29 points on only 13 shots is incredible. He has improved so much in his Pfeiffer career and we will need games from him like this, down the stretch if we are to continue our success. Jeff Pettiway was a force on the offensive end and he was so confident with his game winning free throws. Derrick Truesdale made the play of the game defensively coming up with a big steal and it is hard to believe but there were many game winning plays made by several different players. Mike Davidson continues to work hard and get more playing time and made a huge 3-pointer with five minutes to play. All 13 players in uniform contributed to this win."
Pfeiffer, ranked 6th in the latest East Region poll, is now 17-5 overall and 13-3 in Conference Carolina's, a game out of first place. The Falcons host Coker on Saturday in a Senior Night game for Craig Thomas and Thomas Carr. It is also Alumni night at Pfeiffer as the women tip off at 5:30 and the men at 7:30pm.
