| Falcons Drop Two to #9 USC-Aiken |

| AIKEN, S.C.--#9 USC Aiken defeated visiting Pfeiffer 11-4 in the first game of a two-game set Tuesday evening. In the second game USC Aiken (42-11) turned a 2-1 deficit into a 6-2 advantage and defeated Pfeiffer (26-31) 8-2 on Wednesday afternoon. In the first game USC Aiken jumped ahead 1-0 early against Pfeiffer starter Chris Russell. A solo shot off the bat of Eric Shoemaker tied the game in the top of the second. The Pacers went ahead for good in the bottom of the second, plating three runs highlighted by a long home run. After an error on Ken Raborn, the Falcons closed to 4-3 in the top of the third with a pair of unearned runs. Freshman Chris Grandinetti drilled a solo shot off the scoreboard in left on the first pitch of the top of the sixth, ending Russell’s outing. The Pfeiffer hurler allowed nine runs, eight earned, on 11 hits while walking one and striking out one to fall to 0-2. In game two a Falcon misplay of a potential inning-ending double play in the bottom of the fifth led to five unearned runs as Aiken turned a 2-1 deficit into a 6-2 advantage and never looked back. Bryan Braxton and Zack Pou each had two of the Falcons eight hits while Eric Shoemaker’s sac fly in the fourth and Cory Adams pinch hit single to right in the fifth accounted for Pfeiffer’s two runs. Jacob Moore (1-2) suffered the loss for Pfeiffer, giving up six runs, but just one earned, on six hits and four walks, striking out four in 5.0 innings. Pfeiffer will close out their 2008 season on Saturday at Lander in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 PM. |
