|Misenheimer, NC---Pfeiffer lost 1-0 in double overtime to North Georgia in men's soccer action Wednesday afternoon. The Falcons outshot the Saints 13-6 but a goal in the 104th minute gave North Georgia the win. Pfeiffer is now 5-4 on the season while the Saints are now 3-5-1. |
Both teams had their chances in the second half, after a defensive stalemate in the first half.
The Falcons had the first chance of the match in the 55th minute when Nick Brindley took a shot to the right corner of the goal. North Georgia goalkeeper Brandon Kirksey lept for the ball, with the intial save slipping from his gloves. He was able to retain possession to keep the score tied at 0-0.
The next opportunity for either team came in the 59th minute when a goal scored by North Georgia's Allen was called back due to offsides on the Saints.
Pfeiffer's Mario Garcia attempted a free kick from just outside the 18, bent the ball around the right side of the wall and to the near post. Kirksey made a diving save to his right, just shy of the post to keep the score tied at 0-0 in the 75th minute.
The Falcons attacked again when Garcia got into a one-v-one situation in the 77th minute, only to have Kirksey tipped the ball with fingertips and force the ball wide of the goal.
Pfeiffer got the first attempt on goal in overtime, when Davi Lorenzo gathered a loose ball at the top of 18. He pushed the ball wide right in the 92nd minute, keeping the score tied 0-0.
In the 104th minute North Georgia scored on a header by Avram Allen off a cross by Clay Davis.
Pfeiffer will return to action Next Tuesday when they host conference rival Barton at 4:00 pm.
