Mount Olive, NC---Pfeifer lost to Mount Olive in CVAC men's basketball action Monday night. Robert McGriff led Pfeiffer(13-6,7-5) scoring 25 points and adding 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals but it wasn't enough to stop the Trojans(14-5,8-4). Tavares Cooper scored 22 points for Pfeiffer who had six players score in double figures.
The Falcons came out firing grabbing a 20-10 lead after five minutes thanks to shooting 7 for 10 from the floor.
Mount Olive turned up their intensity but the Falcons responded. Pfeiffer held the Trojans to 35% shooting in the first ten minutes as the Falcons led 29-20.
Mount Olive came back with a 10-2 run over the next two minutes.
The two teams battled evenly over the next few minutes but the Trojans grabbed a one point lead at 39-38 with 5:45 to go.
Pfeiffer went into halftime trailing 59-52. Tavares Cooper, Derrick Brown and Robert McGriff each had 10 points for Pfeiffer in the half.
The Trojans built up a 70-56 lead at the 17:15 mark.
Pfeiffer fought back and a McGriff field goal cut the Falcon defecit to nine, 73-64, with a little less then five minutes gone in the second half.
Logan Call hit a field goal with 10:01 to go to bring the Falcons within ten, 84-74.
The Falcons fought hard but their defecit remained between eight and eleven over the next four minutes.
A 7-0 Falcon run brought them within eight, 96-89, with 5:05 left.
Pfeiffer cut the Trojan lead to six, 102-96, with 2:29 to go but the Falcons couldn't get any closer and lost 110-104.
Robert McGriff had a great game scoring 25 points and adding 10 rbounds, 6 assists and 5 steals. Tavares Cooper added 22 points. Derrick Brown and DeMario Grier each added 12 points. Randall Terry chipped in with 11 points and Logan Call scored 10.
Pfeiffer will return to action Saturday night when they host CVAC rival Queens University at 7:30 pm.
