| Falcons Lose at Buzzer in OT |

| Misenheimer, NC---The Pfeiffer women's basketball team lost a heartbreaker Saturday afternoon when Erskine scored a lay-up at the buzzer in overtime to win 70-68. Pfeiffer now stands at 5-7 on the season and 2-3 in the conference. Erskine improves to 1-9 overall and 1-4 in the conference. Pfeiffer fell behind early but quickly came back using an 11-0 run to take an 13-7 lead at the 12 inute mark. Erskine came back with an 8-0 run but the Falcons responded with a 6-0 run to take a 19-15 advantage. The game was tied at 21 late in the half before Pfeiffer went on a run and took a 33-27 lead going into halftime. Erskine came out in the second half and took the lead after the first few minutes. Agin the Falcons responded with a 6-0 run to reclaim the lead at 42-37. The teams went back and forth for the rest of the game. Kendra Rutledge hit a three-pointer at the 3:15 mark to give Pfeiffer a 54-53 lead. Kalee Smith hit a "3" to give the Falcons a 57-55 advantage with 2:30 to go. Regulation ended with the teams tied at 59. Shanee' Purnell hit a three-pointer to open the scoring in overtime and give Pfeiffer the lead. A 5-0 run built the Falcon advantage to 67-60 but Erskine fought back to tie the game at 68. Pfeiffer missed the potentil game winning shot with seven seconds left leaving Erskine just enough time to grab the rebound and throw the ball down the court to hit a lay-up as the buzzer sounded. Kalee Smith led Pfeiffer with 15 poins and 10 rebounds. Mary Langford had 17 points to lead Erskine. Pfeiffer wil host Lees-McRae Monday at 5:30 pm. |
