Misenheimer, NC---In a very close meet the Falcons just lost out, 99-97, to the Lions of Mars Hill at Pfeiffer on Saturday afternoon. David Haynes was a standout winner for the Men's squad - stepping in to cover for absent Edwin Torres in the mile and pulling off a win after battling stroke for stroke with Arnold of Mars Hill for the better part of 20 minutes. David Angell secured wins in the 400 IM and 200 back, and strong swims from the rest of the team and a new school record in the 200 breast from Kevin were highlights of the day. The Falcons also won both relays by a clear margin.
Coach Hawkins said, "We had a great meet at Campbell with a select group of our swimmers last night, and it was good to see them step it up and still manage to pull out some strong swims today. Unfortunately several Pfeiffer male swimmers were out for this meet, which is especially challenging to take when the score is as close as it was today. I thought that we had a fighting chance, and unfortunately for us Mars Hill had more wins and then a key disqualification cost us the potentially tying points. I know that the guys will come back strong and put in some great swims when we rest them a little and take them to the Savannah Invitational in a couple of weeks." |
