|Misenheimer-- The Pfeiffer softball team swept a non-conference double header with the visiting Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls by scores of 9-0, 9-0. In game one the Falcons scored five times on five base hits in the bottom of the second. Junior first baseman Shelby Fleming got things started by drawing a walk she was then sacrificed to second by Stephanie Brandt then then five consecutive hits by Sarah Moore, Amanda Beck, Tiffany Allen, Stephanie Bethea and Martina Bullard put the Falcons ahead for good. Pfeiffer scored a lone run in the fourth inning and with two outs in the bottom of the fith Amanda Beck connected with a three run walk-off home run to left field giving the Flacons a five inning mercy rule win. Beck went the distance in the circle scattering 3 hits while striking out 9. |
In game two Junior right fielder Brittany Waldon got things going with a one out single. She then stole second base and advanced to third on a pass ball. Senior third baseman Jaimee Cassidy singled to put Pfeiffer up 1-0. In the second inning Stephanie Brandt led off with a triple followed by a Sarah Moore double and consecutive singles by Waldon and Cassidy put the Falcons up 4-0. The third frame saw Pfeffer score three times starting with a walk by Freshman Hannah Clark a single by Tiffany Allen and a two RBI single by Stephanie Bethea. In the fourth Fleming started with a single, Martina Bullard came in to pinch run and later scored on a Golden Bulls throwing error. Allison Braswell later scored on a one out single by the catcher Clark. Nicole Springer threw all five innings and picked up the win in the circle. Springer surrendered 2 hits and struck out five in the 9-0 victory.
Pfeiffer plays again on Saturday in Conference Carolinas action when they travel to Anderson game time slated for 2:00.
