| LAURINBURG, N.C.—Pfeiffer University -- ranked No. 10 nationally in the current IWLCA Division II Poll -- used an 11-2 second half to pull away from a one-goal game at halftime en route to a 17-7 Conference Carolinas women’s lacrosse victory over host St. Andrews Presbyterian College on Wednesday afternoon. Ashley Hill, who was named the Conference Carolinas women’s lacrosse Player of the Week earlier today, had a game-high five goals and seven points to lead the Lady Falcons to their second straight league victory. Pfeiffer holds a 6-4 overall and 3-3 league records. Hill and senior Ellie Fenton who scored four goals, were part of a quartet of Falcons who scored multiple goals. Junior Krissy Bentolila registered a hat trick and sophomore Jamie Livingston added a pair of goals. The Knights pulled out to a 4-1 lead with a three-goal run in a one minute and 37 second span. Pfeiffer answered and took the lead for good with a 5-0 run including a pair of goals by Hill. The Falcons looked to have a two-goal lead at halftime but Brown scored her third goal of the half as time expired to pull the score to 6-5 at the midway intermission. The Falcons continued to lead 8-6 before going on an 8-0 outburst to pull away. Fenton started the run with back-to-back free-position goals. Junior goalkeeper Kristine Schafer earned the win in net for the Falcons with seven saves. Pfeiffer battles No. 8 Mercyhurst at neutral Anne Arundel Community College in Annapolis, Maryland on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. |
