| Wilson, NC---Barton defeated Pfeiffer 122-97 in CVAC men's basketball action Monday night. DeMario Grier had 27 points and Tavares Cooper added 25 to lead the Falcons. Pfeiffer fell to 9-2 overall and 3-1 in the CVAC. Barton improves to 7-4 overall and 5-0 in the conference. A Cortland Thomas three-pointer gave Pfeiffer a 13-8 lead with 15:23 to go. Barton responded with a 8-0 to gain the lead at 16-13. The teams fought back and forth and Barton held a 25-23 lead at the ten minute mark. The Falcons' post players kept Pfeiffer in it at the start as Tavares Cooper and Logan Call combined for 13 points in the first ten minutes. At 30-27, Barton went on an 8-0 run to take control. Cooper was trying to kkep the Falcons in the game as he had 11 points at this point with nine of the points coming from the free throw line. The rest of the half was a track meet as both teams pushed the ball and Barton grabbed a 71-55 advantage at the break. Tavares Cooper led Pfeiffer with 18 points in the first half. DeMario Grier and Logan Call each had 10. Barton shot 64% from the floor in the first half. Pfeiffer outrebounded Barton 25-20 and outscored the Bulldogs 20-11 from the free throw line, led by Cooper who went 14-15. Barton opened the second half with a 5-0 run over the first 2:29 to stretch their lead to 21. Both teams kept running and at the 10:49 mark Barton still had a twenty point lead at 91-71. The Falcons then went on a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 13. Pfeiffer fought hard but could not get closer then 13 the rest of the game and finally lost by a score of 122-97. DeMario Grier led Pfeiffer with 27 points and 8 rebounds. Tavares Cooper added 25 points and 7 rebounds. Robert McGriff added 11 and Logan Call contibuted 10 points. Barton outshot Pfeiffer 56% to 43% from the floor. The Bulldogs also outrebounded the Falcons 51-37. Pfeiffer will return to action Thursday when they host Erskine at 7:30 pm. |
