Misenheimer, NC---The Pfeiffer men's swimming team lost to conference opponent Limestone, 119-81, on Friday evening. They will race St. Andrews tomorrow at 1:00 pm.
Event winners for the Falcons were Edwin Torres in the mile (new school record), Patrick Porter in the 50 free and David Angell in the 200 back. Kevin Parks also broke one of the 20 plus year old school records in the 200 breast. Several other swimmers went best times. Edwin Torres was pushed for the first 30 laps of the mile, but edged away and went on to win by over 20 seconds. Newcomers Patrick Porter and Marc Kourie went 1-2 in the 50 free in what was a very competitive race. David Angell battled from 2nd to secure the win the 200 backstroke, making a significant improvement in his underwater kicking to allow him to stay in the race early on. Coach Hawkins said, "Overall it was a very challenging meet, made even more so due to having 4 women and 1 male swimmer sidelined with some random injuries. Without any depth against tough competition like that we knew it would be a big challenge. I was very happy with the overall performance and attitude though, and all the athletes who did swim were very competitive and fought hard to claim all the points they could. It wasn't just the event winners that made the meet still a successful event, but the other kids too who got in and did their job and then some in order to try to cover the gaps." |
