Misenheimer, NC---The Pfeiffer women's soccer team tied Newberry College 0-0 in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon. Newberry came into the game ranked #7 in the Southeast Region. Pfeiffer now stands at 8-6-3 on the year. Newberry is now 7-4-5. The first fifteen minutes was back and forth with neither team able to gain control of the flow of the game. In the 17th minute Newberry came close to scoring the first goal. Brooke Tumblin broke free and beat the keeper but her shot into the open goal was cleared at the last second by Falcon defender Kristen Brahosky. Pfeiffer had one good scoring chance in the first half. Kirsten Bartsch took a through pass and went in one-v-one with the Indian goalie but her shot was stopped. At halftime the game was scoreless. Both defenses continued their oustanding play in the second half and there were no good scoring opportunities. In the second overtime Angela Reale took a pass on the right side of the field beat three defenders as she made her way to goal but the Newbery goalie made a nice save to keep the game scoreless. With a little over a minute left a Newbery cross found Sara Geisman open at the back post but her header went well over the crossbar. Pfeiffer outshot Newberry 9-8 fo the game. Suzie Hinman made four saves for the Falcons. Danielle Beckerle made five saves for Newberry. Pfeiffer will return to action next Wednesday, the 24th, when they travel to Queens for a 7:00 pm game. |
