| LAURINBURG, N.C.—Kyle Loda broke a fourth quarter tie with the eventual game-winning goal with 6:38 left in the game, lifting host St. Andrews Presbyterian College to a 7-6 Conference Carolinas men’s lacrosse victory over visiting Pfeiffer University on Wednesday afternoon. the Knights remain perfect in the league at 2-0. SAPC maintains a 2-8 overall record. The Falcons, who remain winless at 0-6 overall and 0-2 in the conference, erased a four-goal deficit after the first quarter tying the contest midway through the fourth quarter on a sophomore Wesley McMahon goal. St. Andrews jumped out to a 4-0 advantage after 15 minutes. Nick Lewnes scored his second goal of the game in the middle of the second quarter to extend the Knights lead to 5-0. Sophomore Chad Olsen finally put the visitors on the board at the 5:26 mark of the second quarter. Hull and the Knights defense held the Falcons off the scoreboard for the first 24 minutes of the game. Pfeiffer slowly chipped away at the deficit out scoring St. Andrews 2-1 in the final three quarters. The Knights continued to lead 6-4 heading into the final period but the Falcons scored the first two goals of the frame including a tally by sophomore Jameson Schultz in the first minute of the fourth quarter. McMahon’s goal with 7:31 showing on the clock tied the score for the only time in the game at 6-6. However, the Knights would not be out done and Loda put St. Andrews back on top just 53 seconds later. The Knights defense once again picked up its play late holding Pfeiffer off the board in the final seven minutes to preserve the one-goal victory including an important 30-second extra-man opportunity kill in the final minute of the game. Falcons’ senior netminder Pat Martin had a solid game in net for Pfeiffer making 17 saves. Pfeiffer will host Briarcliff College Saturday at 1:00 pm. |
