| Women's Lacrosse Wins Opener |

| Misenheimer, NC – The Pfeiffer University Women’s Lacrosse team defeated Belmont Abbey (2-2) 16-9 on a cold and windy day. The Lady Falcons (1-0) led 4-3 with 14 minutes left in the 1st half before scoring the last 7 goals of the half to lead 11-3 at the break. Pfeiffer opened the second half with two goals to go ahead 13-3 before the Lady Crusaders answered with 5 straight goals to close the gap to 13-8. Pfeiffer proceeded to take a time out and finished the game on a 3-1 run to win the 1st CVAC game of the season. The Lady Falcons were led by Jenn Gappert (sr, Annapolis, Maryland) 4 goals and 1 assists, Alycia Schwarz (sr. Colorado Springs, CO) 2 goals and 2 assists and three others with two goals apiece. The Pfeiffer defense played extremely well led by Kristin Kibler (6 saves) and Jenny Deans (Sr. Annapolis, MD) 6 groundballs and 6 caused turnovers. Coach Domenech had this to say, ”Belmont Abbey is a good team. I was pleased with our effort being our 1st game. Obviously there areas we will need to improve as we go thru the season. Our seniors led us today which is what we are looking for.” |
