Pfeiffer University Vice President for Athletics/Athletic Director Bob Reasso has announced the hiring of Roy Dow as the new women’s basketball head coach. Dow comes to Pfeiffer from California Lutheran University where he served as the head coach for five years.
Dow is no stranger to success on the sidelines. In his most recent position, Dow led the Regals to four consecutive winning seasons, back-to-back conference tournament championships and NCAA appearances, and a conference regular season title. Last season, Dow’s squad went 23-5, tying a school record for most wins in a season. In his five years, Dow accumulated an 81-51 record and a .614 winning percentage. He also had 12 players named to the All-Conference team and two players named to the All-West Region.
Prior to his time at California Lutheran, Dow was the head coach of the men’s basketball team at California Institute of Technology for seven years. While there, he worked to improve the recruiting efforts and gained the program national media coverage. His efforts were rewarded with the critically acclaimed documentary Quantum Hoops which is a 2007 documentary that followed the team and won a Top 10 Audience Choice Award at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

Pfeiffer University Head Women’s Basketball Coach Roy Dow has announced the hiring of Jordan Franey as the team’s assistant coach. Franey spent the 2012-13 season as Dow’s assistant at California Lutheran University.
In Franey’s one season as an Assistant Coach for the Regals, the squad finished 23-5, tying the school record for most wins in a season. Cal Lutheran also won the regular season SCIAC crown with a 13-3 record and advanced to the NCAA Tournament by capturing the SCIAC Conference Tournament Title. The Regals led the conference in defense, allowing on 55.7 points per game, and their .405 field goal percentage, and 4.7 rebounding margin, was also tops in the league.
Prior to her stint at Cal Lutheran, Franey was a Graduate Assistant Coach at Whittier College from 2010-12. On the sidelines for Whittier, Franey helped with post player development, as well as working on the team’s strength and conditioning. She also oversaw recruiting and the academic progress of her players.
Franey had a decorated playing career at Division I UC Santa Barbara. She was part of three Big West Conference Championships, as well as two consecutive berths to the NCAA Tournament (2008, 2009). The Gauchos fell to the eventual tournament runner-up, Stanford, in 2009. Franey was named the Big West Freshman of the Year in 2006-07 and posted the eighth most assists and 10th most points scored during a freshmen campaign in school history. Franey earned a selection to the Big West All-Conference and All-Academic Teams during the 2008-09 season and played in all 128 games during her career.
Franey gained her bachelor’s degree from UC Santa Barbara in 2010 with a major in History and minors in Exercise & Sport Science and Education & Applied Psychology. She received her master’s from Whittier in 2012 while studying Education and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a grade point average of 3.912.
