Athletic Director/VP for Athletics Bob Reasso '73 has announced the hiring of Chris Wood as the universities first Men's and Women's Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Head Coach. Wood will start the Pfeiffer program from scratch with the Falcons beginning competition in the 2014-15 season.

“We couldn’t be more excited to add Chris to our athletic department,” said Reasso. “It’s an exciting time for Pfeiffer as we add four sports and we are very happy to bring in a coach of Chris’ caliber to lead those programs. I had the pleasure of working with Chris at Husson University where he did a brilliant job of building both the Cross Country and Track programs.”

Wood most previously served ran the Track and Field and Cross Country programs for over two seasons at Husson University in Bangor, Maine. Under Reasso at Husson, Wood increased his roster size in his two years and was responsible for coaching jumps, javelin and sprints/hurdles. He also designed and implemented a comprehensive Sports Performance program for 18 athletic teams. He guided the women’s cross country team to the North Atlantic Conference Championship in 2011 and 2012 and was the Runner Up in 2013.

Prior to his time at Husson, Wood was the Strength and Conditioning Coordinator and Assistant Track and Field Coach at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA from 2007-2011. Wood oversaw the operations of the fitness center and created an online interface for student athletes to get exercise program information. He coached combined events, javelin, and jumps, while also teaching five courses.

Wood also spent time at LaSalle University as the Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach. Wood spent 2003-2005 at Temple University where he was promoted from a Graduate Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach to the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for Olympic Sports.

"First and foremost, I’d like to say thank you to the Pfeiffer University Administration for making this position a reality,” said Wood. “My family and I are truly thankful for this great opportunity. This position is going to be great for many reasons. Among them is the new energy in the athletic department, the chance to share my talents with a University that has potential for real growth, and of course, the opportunity to start a program in a region that allows for year-round running."

Wood graduated from Temple with a Masters of Education and earned his Bachelor of Exercise Science from the University of Puget Sound. He has eight strength and conditioning certifications and was named the North Atlantic Conference Cross Country Coach of the Year in 2012. His duties will begin on January 2.
