Rakes Takes Over as Cheerleading and Dance Team Coach

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Pfeiffer VP for Athletics Bob Reasso has announced the hiring of Valerie Rakes to become the Falcons Cheerleading and Dance Team coach.

"We have decided to build a competitive cheer and dance program and we have found the perfect coach to lead them," announced Reasso. "Valerie has a wealth of coaching experience and the passion to build two great programs. It is an added bonus that she is an excellent teacher in our nursing program. We are looking forward to the excitement they will add to athletics and Pfeiffer University."

Rakes has been involved in All-Star competitive cheer for 12 years. She was the leader and organizer of All-Star cheer parent organizations and activities which included fundraising, team and gym events, cheer competitions and team evaluations. Additionally she has completed high school and all-star cheer judging certifications for competitive cheer and dance and has judged middle and high school cheer tryouts.

"Being named the cheer and dance coach at Pfeiffer University will allow those teams to develop into competitive athletic programs," said Rakes. "I am excited to have the opportunity to coach and mentor athletes to become responsible, accountable and competitive. With my experience in competitive cheer and dance, I look forward to showcasing the talents of each athlete and brining a pride and spirit to Pfeiffer University."

The cheerleading and dance teams will begin competition and performance this season.
