MISENHEIMER, NC – In conjunction with Special Olympics Stanly County, Pfeiffer University and the Falcon Club hosted Sunday's games in Merner Gymnasium where athletes from all over came to show off their basketball skills.
A number of Pfeiffer athletes, cheerleaders and administrators volunteered their time to assist with the event. The Olympians marched into Merner Gymnasium with the customary processional before getting some skill work.
The Pfeiffer men's basketball team ran a camp at the beginning of the day that included passing, shooting and dribbling exercises and then the Olympians were put to test in drills that required offensive and defensive team work.
The day concluded with a basketball game between the Olympic athletes to show off the skills that were learned throughout the day. As the game concluded, no team lost as everyone who competed and volunteered their time walked away from the day with a smile and a t-shirt and the Olympians were given a medal.
"In the six years we have done this event, this was the best one," commented Head Men's Basketball Coach Jeremy Currier. "Our kids look forward to this day every year and we are honored to host this event. It was a tremendous day."
