Micki Thompson is in her 12th year at Pfeiffer University, is in her third year as Assistant Director of Athletics, and in her second year as Director of Compliance, SWA, and Athletic Department Title IX Coordinator.
Thompson is the point person for all aspects of a complete compliance program for NCAA Division II, Conference Carolinas, and University rules and regulations overseeing 18 athletic teams and all athletic department staff members. She also manages business operations activities for the Department of Athletics in conjunction with the Director of Athletics.
During Thompson’s time at Pfeiffer she has served as Athletics Operations Manager, Assistant Director of Compliance, Motor Fleet Administrator, department of sports information supervisor, interim head cross country coach, DII Southeast Regional Advisory Committee Member for women’s golf, adjunct professor, and advisor to the student-athlete advisory committee (SAAC). Additional roles within the Athletic Department have been the Athletic Department Staff Relations Committee liaison, team travel coordinator, game day manager, facilities manager, special events coordinator, cheerleading coach, and work study program coordinator. In 2009, she was the recipient of the Starnes Award for Outstanding Achievement.
Additionally, Thompson has represented Pfeiffer University as a facilitator for the NCAA DII Leadership Academy in the 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 academic years. In this role, Thompson helped educate and engage student-athletes, coaches, and administrators from across the country in various aspects associated with leadership and personal development.
Along with her duties with Pfeiffer, Thompson is heavily involved in the local community. She is a member of the Uwharrie Running Club, a Basic Law Enforcement Training PT Co-Instructor at Stanly Community College, a certified American Heart Association CPR Instructor, is a Notary Public for Stanly County, and is actively involved in the North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission’s hunter education program.
Thompson obtained both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Pfeiffer University earning a BS degree in both criminal justice and sociology, and a MSL in organizational change and leadership. She and her husband Ashley, also a Pfeiffer University graduate, have two children; daughter, Abby (20), and son, Jake (18).
