Falcons Erupt For Seven In The Fifth And Go On To Win, 10-6

MIAMI SHORES, FL – The Pfeiffer Falcons (1-3) picked up their first win of the year Saturday in the second game of the three game series against Barry University (2-4) as they erupted for a seven run fifth inning and banged out 12 hits on the evening to win 10-6.

After the Falcons allowed four runs in the first four innings, they batted around in the fifth inning to take the upperhand. The Falcons got a big hit from Jordan Eckard that scored Brandall Peters and  Xavier Rodriguez. Later, Tanner Mathis smacked a two RBI double down the line that scored Eckard and Elwood and Derek Perry's single scored Zack Scudder.

The Buccaneers countered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning with runs by Abreu and Baldwin scored on a wild pitch by relief pitcher Dylan Smith.

Pfeiffer added two insurance runs in the top of the eight as lead-off hitter Peters doubled to right field, stole third and scored on an Elwood single. A Eckard walk set up a double to center field from Scudder to advance Eckard to third. Mathis hit a sacrifice fly to center to seal the Pfeiffer win.

All nine Falcon position players added a hit, two had multi-hit games. Damon Smith recorded two hits and Elwood extended his hitting streak to four games as he went 3-for-5.

Pfeiffer relief pitcher, Dylan Smith picked up his first win of the season as he went 1.2 innings. Drew Wilson earned the save, going three shutout innings to close the door.

The Buccaneers and the Falcons will play tomorrow at 1 p.m. in the rubber game at Barry University.
