CENTRAL, S.C. = The Pfeiffer Falcons (9-11, 3-4 CC) and the Southern Warriors (6-15, 2-5 CC) played a barn burner of a game on Friday night at Southern Wesleyan as the Warriors outlasted the Falcons 15-12. Brandall Peters, Zach Scudder and Derek Perry combined for seven RBI on the evening.
Southern Wesleyan struck first as they scored four runs in the bottom of the second on the combination of three Pfeiffer errors. John Garnett singled in Justin Brew, Connor Ewing was hit by a pitch that plated a run, Trevor Walke hit into a fiedlers choice as the Falcons were unable to get any outs and then Jason Molden singled in another run as John Elwood was credited with an error.
Pfeiffer was able to get back into the game in the as they added two and three runs in the fourth and fifth innings respectively.
In the fourth, Tanner Mathis and Scudder got on base with free passes. Perry hit an RBI double to score Mathis from second. Scudder scored on a RBI groundout by Peters and in the firth, Perry again got a big hit to score Jordan Eckard and Elwood. Scudder came around to score as Damon Smith singled him in to make it 6-5 Warriors at the end of 4 ½
The Warriors answered Pfeiffer's runs with another four spot in the bottom of the fifth, but again the Falcons again countered with four more in the top of the sixth as it was capped off by a Scudder two-run homerun to left field.
Southern Wesleyan's Quinton Bent doubled to lead off the sixth and came home to score as Dimarkus San laid down a bunt single. Connor Ewing came up in the next at-bat and Garnett and San. Next batter, Walke was hit by a pitch and then two batters later Julio Justo doubled in both Walke and Ewing.
The Falcons added a run in the top of the seventh and had one last opportunity in the top of the ninth as Andrew Toney walked and then Cody McKenzie singled to center to score the runner. McKenzie go to second with a stolen base Elwood plated the last Falcon run with a single to center to score McKenzie.
Pfeiffer returns to action on Saturday afternoon at 12 noon as part of their doubleheader against Southern Wesleyan.
