Misenheimer, N.C. -- Make it 10 in a row for the Pfeiffer baseball team as they defeated Greensboro 8-2 on Saturday. The win streak hit double digits with the help of the Falcon offense, as they continued to punish the Pride's pitching staff with 13 hits. Kirby Lambert and Jordan Eckard each had 3 hits to lead the team.
Despite being down one early, Pfeiffer put up a four spot in the bottom of the first with the help from the vaunted middle of the order for the Falcons. Lambert drove in a run with an RBI double that scored Derek Perry. Christian Marciano then drove in two runs with a single to right field to give Pfeiffer an early lead. Shortstop Ira Dorin would drive in the fourth run of the inning with a single to left that scored Marciano.
In the second inning, the Falcons would push across two more runs off another Kirby Lambert base hit and a Christian Marciano RBI single. The trio of Eckard, Lambert, and Marciano went a combined 8-14 with 2 homeruns and 7 RBI's.
Eckard would hit his homerun in the 6th inning; a solo shot off of starter Will Hicks for his 5th homer of the season. Eckard is now hitting .429 with 14 RBI's on the year. Lambert came up right after Eckard and punished one over the left-center field wall for the eighth run of the contest. Lambert now has 6 big fly's on the season.
It was an excellent start for Matthew Lambert, who went 7 innings while giving up just 3 hits and 2 runs (1 earned) and striking out 8. With the win, Lambert improves his record to 1-0 on the season. The Pfeiffer bullpen also pitched well, with Cameron Reid going 1 inning with 1 strikeout, and Xavier Rodriguez closing the game out in the 9th and collecting a punchout.
For Greensboro, starter Will Hicks took his first loss of the season. Hicks went 6 innings while giving up 8 earned runs and striking out 4. The Pride offense was held to just 3 hits on the afternoon while striking out a total of 10 times.
Game three of the series is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at Joe Ferebee field as the Falcons go for the three game sweep of Greensboro. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
