How it Happened – Game 1
The two teams battled through three scoreless innings to start the game but the Falcons broke through in the bottom of the fourth inning. Blake Winebarger started things off with a leadoff double down the third base line.  A groundout by Ira Dorin moved Winebarger to third. He would then score on a Cougar error to make it 1-0.  Pfeiffer got their second run of the inning when Bryan Kowalski singled through the left side to score Kyler Fairchild.

Senior Chaston Gordon would double in the fifth and would come around to score on an RBI single from Gauge Gantt to push the lead to 3-0.

Averett scored their first run of the game in the sixth to close to 3-1.  Pfeiffer then made it 4-1 in the seventh inning when Mason Striplin smashed his second home run of the season over the left field wall.

The Cougars would make it interesting in the eighth, as they scored two runs to make it 4-3.  They had the potential go-ahead run on second base, but Pfeiffer reliever Bryce Marsh was able to quell the threat, forcing a pop-up to end the inning.

Averett again threatened in the ninth.  After the first two Cougar batters struck out, they managed to get runners on first and second, but Marsh struck out the final batter to secure the win, earning the save in the process.

Falcon starting pitcher Holden Carter got the win to improve to 5-1 on the season, pitching 5.1 innings allowing just four hits and one run while striking out four Averett batters.
