MISENHEIMER, N.C. – For the second time this season, a Division III college basketball poll has ranked Pfeiffer as the top team in the nation. BennettRank, a ranking done by HeroSports, has selected the Falcons as the nation's top team.
Earlier in the season, StatGeek Analytics ranked Pfeiffer #1 and the college basketball world took notice. After running their win streak to 11 to start the 2017-18 campaign, BennettRank listed the Falcons as the top DIII program.
Pfeiffer is 11-0 for the first time since starting the 2003-04 campaign with 19 straight wins. The Falcons have dominated the competition all season, winning by an average of 40 points per night. Offensively, the Falcons are scoring 116.9 points per game and are shooting 52.8 percent from the field, both of which would be program records. The Pfeiffer press is forcing opponents into 36 turnovers per game and holding opponents to 30.7 percent shooting from long range.
Only one Division III team scores more points per game than the Falcons. Greenville is averaging 125.5 per night and Grinnell is tied with Pfeiffer at 116.9.
Senior Josh Calhoun is scoring a ridiculous 27.7 points per game and shooting 60.6 percent from the field and 57.0 percent from long range.
Pfeiffer will put its unbeaten streak on the line Saturday when they travel to Covenant for a 4 p.m. contest. On Sunday, the Falcons travel to Maryville to take on the Scots who are 8-0 in USA South play.
