The Pfeiffer University men's basketball team continued their strong start to the season, downing Carolina Christian 141-110 at Merner Gym on Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons (3-0) had six players post double-digit scoring outputs on the afternoon, led once again by senior forward Kyle Riddley (Charlotte, N.C.), as he poured in 41 points while posting six rebounds.  Riddley managed a 13-of-16 shooting outing while hitting three from long range.  He also was a perfect 12-of-12 from the free throw line.  Sophomore Blake Smith (Wilmington, N.C.) continued his hot streak, draining five threes on the afternoon, going for 17 points.

Junior Josiah Avington (Fredericksburg, Va.) also had a great afternoon, scoring 14 points and grabbing a team-high seven rebounds.  Freshman teammate D.J. Brasher (Burlington, N.C.) also finished with 14 points, going 6-of-8 from the field. Brasher also had six rebounds and three assists in the win.

Rounding out the double-digit scorers was sophomore Percy Johnson (Charlotte, N.C.) and
Martavis McLamb (Clayton, N.C.), with Johnson hitting for 12 points and McLamb chipping in 10.

Pfeiffer continued to shoot well, hitting 48-of-87 shots (55.2%) and 17-of-37 (45.9%) from three-point range.  The Falcons also finished 28-of-37 from the free throw line, good for 75.7%.

The Falcons outscored the visiting Centurions in the paint 60-50 in addition to a 62-35 advantage from the bench.

Carolina Christian (1-3) got 24 points from Caleb Young while Mike Burnett finished with 19.

The Falcons quickly jumped ahead in the first half, bolting to an 18-7 lead by the 15:23 mark.  CCC was able to close the gap to 18-16 following a Burnett three-pointer two minutes later, but Pfeiffer responded by stretching the lead to 47-32 with 5:07 to play in the first.  Pfeiffer then went into the halftime break up by 21 (65-44) after Tyjarek Simmons (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.) drilled a three-pointer at the halftime buzzer.

In the second half, Pfeiffer increased the lead to 33 points (86-53) following a McLamb long-ball at the 15:35 mark.  Carolina Christian would get no closer than 20 points the rest of the way, with Pfeiffer taking the 141-110 win.

The 141 points scored is the second-most in program history, second only to a 146-point output in a 146-122 home win over Barton on Feb. 8, 2010.

The Falcons will continue their home stand on Nov. 28, taking on Methodist in a USA South matchup. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
