SNOW HILL, N.C. – The Pfeiffer University men's golf team saw much better play in the second and final round of the Conference Carolinas Championships, finishing with a 5-over 293 at the Cutter Creek Golf Club in Snow Hill, North Carolina on Tuesday. Though it was tied for the 3rd-best total of the day, it was not enough to pull the Falcons out of 7th place for the tournament (312-293 - 605).
Limestone controlled sole possession of 1st place both rounds and won the tournament with a 297-284 - 581 (+5). after finishing round one's action with a 9-over 297, owning a 15-stroke lead over 2nd-place Barton (303-293 - 596).
Zach Weaver (Williamsburg, VA / Lafayette HS), who was named first team All-Conference Carolinas and team MVP over the weekend, bounced back with a 2-under 70 on Tuesday to compensate for 4-over 76 during first round action. He finished the tournment tied for 4th place, capping off a phenomenal collegiate career with seven top-10 performances in his final year on campus. Weaver was named to the All-Tournament Team after posting a 2-over 76-70 = 146 for the 36-hole event.
After posting a 7-over 79 on Sunday, Senior Nicolas Doblin (Trappes, FRANCE / UFA Notre Dame) joined teammate Weaver in becoming just the fifth golfer to card a 2-under 70 in the second round to jump 19 spots and finish tied for 11th in the final individual standings.
Sophomore Cory Selander (Prince Albert, Canada / Carlton Comprehensive HS) led the Falcons after round one by turning in a 3-over 75, but slid a few slots with a 6-over 78 this afternoon. He scored a 75-78 = 153 (+9) to finish the championships tied for 27th.
Senior Nathan Bull (Asheville, NC / Enka) had a much better outing today, carding a 3-over 75 to hop four spots and conclude tied for 36th. Senior C.J. Dreyfuss' (Yorktown, VA / York) 82-84 - 166 placed him in 45th place.
Limestone's Will Woodard (-4) and Cabrick Waters (E) held the top two positions in the individual leaderboard standings.
Originally scheduled to be a 54-hole tournament, the Conference Carolinas Championships was cut short by 18 holes due to hostile weather implications on Monday.
