TIGERVILLE, SC - The Pfeiffer men's lacrosse team (7-7, 3-3 CC) dropped an 18-8 decision at North Greenville (7-7, 3-3) on Saturday afternoon and fell to fifth place in the conference standings with the loss.
The top four teams in the league host a conference tournament quarterfinal matchup, meaning the Falcons may be traveling to Tigerville again in 10 days for the opening round of the league tournament. In order to move past NGU in the standings, Pfeiffer will need to defeat second-place Mount Olive and have the Crusaders fall to Lees-McRae in their regular season finale.
Blade Garlow had two goals and an assist and Jared Nelson added one goal and two assists in the loss. North Greenville was led by six goals from Austin Dixon and four scores from Jake Foster. The Crusaders Logan Bryant won 22-of-25 face offs on the day and grabbed a game-high 16 ground balls.
Kyle Barna, Ryan Cummings, Cody Lamond, Justin Oberg and goalie Mike Moorehead each tallied one goal. Moorehead's coast-to-coast goal in the third quarter was the highlight of the day for the Falcons.
In addition to his goal, Moorehead made 17 saves to push his conference-leading total to 192 and his 456 career saves place him fifth in Pfeiffer history.
The Crusaders ran out to a 5-1 lead after one quarter and took a 12-2 lead at halftime. NGU held a 46-24 advantage in shots and won 25 of 30 face offs on the afternoon. The hosts also held a decisive 38-16 lead in ground balls.
Pfeiffer returns to action on Wednesday in their regular season finale. The Falcons travel to Mount Olive with face off scheduled for 4 p.m.
