Nelson Snaps 21-Year-Old Record With 10 Assists as Falcons Dominate Averett

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Sophomore Jared Nelson broke the single-game assist record with 10 helpers and also topped 100 career points as the Falcons (3-2) drubbed Averett (0-4) by a final score of 25-4 on Saturday afternoon. John Allen added eight goals for the Falcons and Blade Garlow tallied seven goals and four assists.

Nelson tied the assist record in a game last year when he recorded nine. The record was originally set by Kevin Iwanusa in 1997 and hadn't been broken in 21 years. However, with his final assist, Nelson now owns the mark. Nelson added one goal and two ground balls on the day.

Averett, a first-year program, was led by three goals and an assist from Keshawn Downing.

The Falcons dominated the game and scored 21 of the game's final 23 goals. Of Pfeiffer's 25 goals on the day, 24 of them were assisted which also sets a program record. The previous high of 21 stood since '97. The 49 total points by Pfeiffer is the third highest single-game total in team history.

The Falcons held a 50-16 advantage in ground balls and went 19-for-21 in clears. The Falcons were also a perfect 6-for-6 with the man advantage.

Pfeiffer held a 61-16 lead in shots and won 20 of the 32 faceoffs.

The Falcons return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Guilford for a 6 p.m. contest which is the start of a four-game road swing.
