DEMOREST, GA. – The Pfeiffer men's lacrosse team (4-3) moved a game over .500 with a 10-8 road victory at Piedmont (4-4) on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons never trailed in the contest and got four goals from senior Blade Garlow in the win.
Nelson opened the scoring just 2:54 into the game on an unassisted goal. After the Lions answer with 10:57 left in the quarter, Garlow scored back-to-back goals to put the Falcons ahead 3-1.
After Piedmont scored with 20 seconds left in the first quarter, Pfeiffer opened the second frame with goals from John Allen and Garlow. The Lions put one past Michel at the 7:55 mark of the second quarter but Nelson and Cummings scored 1:40 apart to give the Falcons a 7-3 advantage.
A pair of goals by Piedmont late in the third quarter cut the Falcon lead to 8-7. However, Luke Cox scored just 29 seconds into the fourth to give the Falcons a two-goal advantage. Chris Hadlow brought the hosts within one goal at the 6:51 mark but Garlow sealed the win with his fourth and final tally with 5:39 to play.
Neither team was able to convert with the man advantage. Pfeiffer went 0-for-3 and the Lions were 0-for-2. Piedmont held a slim 31-26 advantage in shots and 26-20 lead in ground balls.
Pfeiffer returns to action in a week when they travel to Methodist for a 1 p.m. matchup.
