SALISBURY, N.C. - The Pfeiffer men's tennis team won four of six singles matches and two out of three doubles matches to defeat Catawba Monday afternoon, 6-3. The win improves the Falcons record to 3-1 on the young season and with the loss the Indians fall to 6-7.
In doubles play the duo of freshman Axel Woerner and junior Stephen Miller were victorious, winning their matchup 8-6. The veteran partnership of junior Orlando Castillo and senior Bret Williams doubled their opponents' score defeating them 8-4.
Pfeiffer won over 60% of their singles contests for the day, nearly dominating the home team. The Falcons got singles wins from Woerner, sophomore Loic Minery, junior Sebastian Wernecke, and sophomore Jimmy Molina. Three out of the four singles winners swept their competitors, with Minery taking his matchup to a third frame before pulling out the win.
Today's outcome bears a striking resemblance to the last time these two squads met when the Falcons defeated Catawba 6-3 on September 26, 2013.
The men's tennis team returns to action on February 27th when they take on Brevard on their home court. Match time is set for 2:00 p.m.
