Falcons Take 5-4 Men's Tennis Win Over Shaw
Misenheimer, N.C. (Feb. 25, 2019) – The Pfeiffer University men's tennis team opened the 2019 spring season with a thrilling 5-4 win over Division II Shaw University at the Knapp Tennis Center on Monday afternoon.
In doubles action, Pfeiffer was able to take two points, with Tom Hubble (Littlebourne, England) and Raul Ruiz (Beni, Bolivia) taking their No. 1 doubles match by an 8-4 score. Pfeiffer won it's second point of the afternoon at No. 3 doubles, when Brandon Marchant (Concord, N.C.) and Ethan Elliott (King, N.C.) won their match by an identical 8-4 score.
After Hubble won his singles match at No. 1 followed by Ruiz' win at No. 3, Shaw came back to tie the match at 4-4, but Pfeiffer freshman Alex Taylor (Mooresville, N.C.) had the clinching point, as he downed Shaw's Gabe Munoz 6-3, 6-4 at No. 6 to seal the 5-4 win.
The win improves the Falcons to 1-3 overall while Shaw falls to 0-3.
