Pfeiffer Softball Takes Two From FDU-Florham
Misenheimer, N.C. (March 13, 2019) –The Pfeiffer University softball team had a big day offensively, as they swept a nonconference doubleheader from FDU-Florham at Jack Ingram Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Pfeiffer – 12-2
Falcon freshman Hannah Tyner blasted her first career homer and had two doubles in her best outing as a Falcon, managing a team-best three RBI in game one. Senior Vada Blue Sherrill scored two runs and was 4-of-4 from the plate.
Makenzie Pennell drove in two runs in the game as she finished 3-of-4 from the plate, which included a double. Sara Brown drove in the other Falcon run, as she was 1-of-4 with an RBI.
Caiti Mickles earned her first collegiate pitching win, as she hurled a complete game shutout, scattering seven hits and striking out three batters.
In game two, the Falcons had to come from behind, as the Devils scored a pair of runs in each of the first three innings, jumping to a 6-5 lead. Pfeiffer got three runs in the second inning on three-run homer from Sherrill and used the long ball again in the third inning, this time a two-run shot from Kiana Millsaps to cut the lead to 6-5.
In the Falcon fifth, Pennell got into the long-ball action, as she lifted her team-leading eighth homerun to left center, driving in Tyner, making it 7-6. Sherrill blasted her second of the game in the sixth inning to jump ahead 8-6.
Pfeiffer pitcher Kyndle Wallace would sit the Devils down in order in the seventh to earn her first save of the year. Kari Westerbeek would get the win, her first of the year after throwing three innings while giving up just one hit while striking out two.
The Falcons will host FDU-Florham for another two-game set on Thursday afternoon, March 14 with game one beginning at 2:00 p.m.
