MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Pfeiffer women's basketball team (5-1) defeated an overmatched Mary Baldwin (1-9) squad by a final score of 80-58 on Tuesday afternoon at Merner Gym. Junior center Grayson Harris posted her third double-double of the season for the Falcons, finishing with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Junior guard Sydni Bickford added 11 points for Pfeiffer who topped the 80-point mark for the fourth time this season. Freshman Shalonda Wilkins scored nine points for the Falcons and was one of 13 different players to score.
The Fighting Squirrels were led by 19 points and 14 rebounds from Cauy Duboise and 13 points from Cheyanne Micheal.
Pfeiffer scored the first 11 points of the contest and never looked back. The hosts took a 25-11 lead into the break and held a 40-25 halftime advantage.
Harris took over in the third quarter, grabbing six boards and adding six points to help Pfeiffer clinch the victory.
Thanks to Harris' effort, Pfeiffer held a 54-45 advantage on the glass in the contest. The Pfeiffer press defense forced Mary Baldwin into 43 turnovers which the Falcons converted into 48 points.
Pfeiffer's largest lead of the game came with 4:46 to go in the third quarter when the Falcons were up by 31 points.
Pfeiffer looks to continue its hot start to the season on Saturday afternoon as they host Ferrum at 2 p.m.
